Reeling in Visitors: Updating this Resorts Website for Family, Fishing, and Fun!

Island View Resort is a beautiful, 14-acre fishing resort in Ore, Minnesota. New owners Brett and Alaine wanted a new website to show how they made this beautiful peninsula into a place where families and fishermen alike could come together to make memories and have fun.

Where they started

When they bought Island View Resort, Brett and Alaine inherited its original website, which hadn’t been updated in a decade. The original owners were working with a hosting company that held the keys, so Brett couldn’t change any part of the website without going through a third party. As new owners with lots of valuable updates to make, this significantly slowed down their ability to market the resort properly to their audience. 

The inherited site didn’t have a clear call to action, any way to tell visitors they could book online, and was over-saturated with content that didn’t show their current value offerings. With the website’s dated design elements and overly dark colors, the visuals didn’t reflect the fun family brand that Island View Resort had become.

Bringing The Island View Resort Website to Life

With several cabins and amenities that needed their own page, Island View Resort decided to get the Premium Package.

We started by getting to know the property and everything this resort had to offer. With a trip to the resort and a chance to meet Brett and Alaine, we learned about Island View Resort’s rich history and asked detailed questions to understand more about changes they had made. The resort had been entirely focused on fishermen and anglers until they had bought it, so we took a deep dive into seeing all of the family fun they offered. Our copywriter took the time to understand these different audiences’ wants and needs carefully so she could write to both successfully throughout the new website.

The pictures on their website were over a decade old, so we helped them get a full photoshoot of the property and each cabin to showcase the amenities and activities their resort had to offer. This time helped us take in the views and thoughtfully pick their new color pallet to brighten their site!

After setting up the link to their online booking platform, we launched the website and gave them the keys, empowering Brett and Alaine to make updates whenever they want without needing to go through a third party.

Our Team’s strategy

Our designer’s goals were to elevate the visual brand, lighten the color pallet to something more inviting, and clean up the user experience to help retain website visitors. Island View Resort is on a gorgeous peninsula full of life, so we chose a beautiful, warm blue paired with deep navy text and sandy, beige accents to help show it off. The pallet and design work great to bring out the colors in the several gorgeous shots of the property. 

Our copywriter’s goal was to establish a clear call to action, consolidate their content into engaging copy, and showcase the Island View experience in a way that resonated with their new family focus. The call to action on each page was to, “Book Your Cabin!” with a button that helped them book through an easy-to-use online portal. 

Using the Storybrand method, our duo married design and writing to tell a story of what it’s like to stay at Island View Resort as a family in a way that helps visitors get excited about their vacation.
