3 Signs It’s Time for a Website Refresh

Have you been contemplating revamping, but you’re not sure if it’s time to make the investment? Today’s blog post will highlight some common reasons we see that drive this decision, along with some benefits that you’ll be able to enjoy once you take the leap.

You’re embarrassed to give out your website URL to people.

I overhear this all the time from people at networking events: two business owners meet and exchange cards, and one of them goes, “well, just don’t go to my website…”.

Whether it’s because they’re embarrassed that they DIYed it themselves, the list of services doesn’t match their current offering, or the design is outdated, there’s clearly room for improvement. If you catch yourself saying this as you share your website with someone, it may be time.

When you hire us to build your website, your messaging reflects exactly what you offer, the imagery speaks to the services (or products) you offer, and all of the buttons link to the proper pages ;) So instead of embarrassment, you are actually proud to show off your new website and can’t wait to share it the next time you hand out your business card!

Your website doesn’t match the experience customers get in person.

Picture this, you visit a gorgeous coffee shop with exposed brick, natural wood tones, curated artwork, lush plants, and a fun tile backsplash wall. Then you look up their website to send to a friend to check out, and it looks they paid their friend’s college kid 100 bucks to set up their site on GoDaddy using some fuzzy pictures they took on their phone from 2016. I call this design whiplash.

If you have a beautifully designed office space where you meet with clients, or a brick & mortar shop, or you’re an online service-based business with a curated social media feed, this one applies to you. When there’s a big disconnect between your physical space (or the graphics you use to promote your services), you are most likely confusing your potential customers/clients.

Having a website that reflects the level of quality and detail that you put into the rest of your design elements will ultimately build the confidence needed for your future clients to want to work with you.

You’ve grown a team, but your website still uses solopreneur language.

Many clients we work with start out as solo business owners for many years. Their website messaging was written using “I”, not “we”, and it served them for that season. But now they are hiring their first employee or two, and it’s time to update that. This shift in the messaging will build credibility with your future clients, knowing they’ll get to work with a team.

Additionally, while you’re at it, it’s a great time to also add your new hire’s headshot and bio to your About or Meet the Team page! You get to show off your team, and recognize the asset that they are to your organization.
